MOTHER MAKER , 2023
Struggling to put to words the experience of being a mother, Mother Maker, is an attempt at scratching the surface of the many complexities and mundaneness of motherhood. Centering the project’s narrative are laundry lines; representing a familiar domestic experience of mothering.
From afar, it appears ordinary and normal but with closer observation, the viewer is led through a mini series of thoughts, feelings, musings and experiences of motherhood through a series of embroidered words and photos woven and printed into the hung fabric. Accompanied with this installation is a looped audio capturing the sounds of nature just outside a home where muffled chattering and yelling from children and clangs of dishes can be heard.
Audio was captured outside my own home and the photos were comprised of self portraits and photos captured by various artists which are credited below.
